{"id":58,"date":"2009-01-14T23:26:36","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T04:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mentalhealth-online.com\/mentalhealth\/?p=58"},"modified":"2009-01-18T10:06:18","modified_gmt":"2009-01-18T15:06:18","slug":"new-years-resolution-lose-weight-and-keep-if-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mentalhealth-online.com\/mentalhealth\/new-years-resolution-lose-weight-and-keep-if-off\/","title":{"rendered":"New Year&#8217;s Resolution:  Lose Weight and Keep If Off!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is 2009 &#8212; a New Year!\u00c2\u00a0 Have you decided to select weight loss as your New Year&#8217;s Resolution this year?\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Have you tried every diet that you know of?\u00c2\u00a0 Have you investigated a large number of fads?\u00c2\u00a0 What methods have you found to\u00c2\u00a0work?\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you say, &#8220;Parts of each of them&#8221;, your experience may be typical of most weight-loss seekers.\u00c2\u00a0 So, here is an approach that purposely <em>combines <\/em>different aspects.\u00c2\u00a0 This approach to weight loss uses a combination of those very techniques\u00c2\u00a0that have been shown themselves effective for weight loss.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what to do:\u00c2\u00a0 Let weight loss be your main goal, then <!--more-->create small mini New Year&#8217;s resolutions (or goals).\u00c2\u00a0 Perhaps you use eating less, or eating more healthily, or eliminating junk food, or exercise, or daily rigorous walking as your mini-goals.\u00c2\u00a0 They are closely related\u00c2\u00a0&#8212; and, certainly, are important components of losing weight.<\/p>\n<p>This can work amazingly well and here&#8217;s why:\u00c2\u00a0 When you focus on different areas of weight loss &#8212; and, remember, you&#8217;ve selected many <em><strong>small<\/strong><\/em> ones &#8212; instead of just the number of pounds that leave, you can see success more quickly and more often.\u00c2\u00a0 For example, let&#8217;s say that on a given day,\u00c2\u00a0you walked for 45 minutes and ate no junk food.\u00c2\u00a0 As a result, you feel totally successful for accomplishing these sub-goals!\u00c2\u00a0 You feel encouraged that you are on track to lose weight.\u00c2\u00a0 All of this is reinforcing to you and to your overall goal of weight loss.\u00c2\u00a0 You feel encouraged and, thus, it is easier to continue with the program in a consistent fashion.\u00c2\u00a0 By doing so, you also begin to see success with pounds leaving.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Do you see how that works?\u00c2\u00a0 As a result of this approach, you are more likely to see greater, more long-term success.\u00c2\u00a0 This success is a result of the\u00c2\u00a0victories on your mini-goals.\u00c2\u00a0 These\u00c2\u00a0are more frequent and, as such, are very reinforcing in themselves and of your goal to lose weight!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is 2009 &#8212; a New Year!
