New Year’s Resolution: Lose Weight and Keep If Off!
Filed Under Emotional Healing, Physical Healing, Stress Remedies
It is 2009 — a New Year! Have you decided to select weight loss as your New Year’s Resolution this year?Â
Have you tried every diet that you know of? Have you investigated a large number of fads? What methods have you found to work?Â
If you say, “Parts of each of them”, your experience may be typical of most weight-loss seekers. So, here is an approach that purposely combines different aspects. This approach to weight loss uses a combination of those very techniques that have been shown themselves effective for weight loss. Â
Here’s what to do: Let weight loss be your main goal, then create small mini New Year’s resolutions (or goals). Perhaps you use eating less, or eating more healthily, or eliminating junk food, or exercise, or daily rigorous walking as your mini-goals. They are closely related — and, certainly, are important components of losing weight.
This can work amazingly well and here’s why: When you focus on different areas of weight loss — and, remember, you’ve selected many small ones — instead of just the number of pounds that leave, you can see success more quickly and more often. For example, let’s say that on a given day, you walked for 45 minutes and ate no junk food. As a result, you feel totally successful for accomplishing these sub-goals! You feel encouraged that you are on track to lose weight. All of this is reinforcing to you and to your overall goal of weight loss. You feel encouraged and, thus, it is easier to continue with the program in a consistent fashion. By doing so, you also begin to see success with pounds leaving.Â
Do you see how that works? As a result of this approach, you are more likely to see greater, more long-term success. This success is a result of the victories on your mini-goals. These are more frequent and, as such, are very reinforcing in themselves and of your goal to lose weight!
