Marlene Shiple, Ph.D. The Life Coach Dr.: Heal Your Past + Heal Your Thoughts + Heal Your Self => Heal Your Life!

ScienceDaily (Jan. 29, 2010) — Researchers at New York University found that our memories are intensified during intervals of rest while we are awake. These findings appear in the latest issue of the journal Neuron.  They broaden our knowledge of how memories are strengthened.  Research studies in the past had shown how this process occurs during sleep.  Now these findings have been expanded to include the fact that memories are also strengthened during times of awake rest.

“Taking a coffee break after class can actually help you retain that information you just learned,” explained Lila Davachi, an assistant professor in NYU’s Department of Psychology and Center for Neural Science. This study was conducted in the laboratory of Professor Davachi.  The Professor continued, “Your brain wants you to tune out other tasks so you can tune in to what you just learned.”

One important conclusion about this research is that rest is ESSENTIAL to strong cognitive function!  So, if you have had the habit in the past to by-pass breaks throughout the day, you might want to re-think this habit.  You would especially want to consider altering your behavior when you are engaged in activities where memory is key.  To learn  about boosting your memory, visit http://thelifecoachdr.com/coach/coaching-products/memory-2/ today!
