Tip #4: What Do You Want Today to Be?
Filed Under Emotional Healing, Mental Healing, Physical Healing, Spiritual Healing
How did you do with Tip #3? As a reminder, it is: Make This Moment Count.
What happened when you started paying attention to the present moment? Could you monitor your breathing more easily? Did you increase the amount of slow, deep breathing that you were doing? What did you notice in your body? in your thoughts? in your feelings?
This information brings us to Tip #4: What do you want today to be?
Yes, that is right — I am suggesting that you think about what you want in your life. Specifically, I am suggesting that you think about what you want this moment to be.
We’ve already referred to the fact that your subconscious mind creates what you are thinking. It does this, as part of its very nature. Whether or not you’re thinking about the creative nature of your subconscious mind, it still creates. Whether or not you agree with the creation, it creates.
So, since your subconscious mind creates what you are thinking, it makes sense that you pay attention to the specifics of that which you are thinking, the specifics of that which it will be making a part of your life. I’m suggesting that you stay aware of the outcomes that you would like to experience in your life.
For example, let’s say that you have just learned that you are having a meeting with an associate with whom you have some business. In the past, you have felt as though this person were negative and non-cooperative. You had been assuming that he would be that way in the new interaction. too. As a result, you had been looking forward to the upcoming meeting with significant reluctance.
Before the meeting, let’s imagine that you put some thought into the specific outcomes you want to see in the meeting. Perhaps you want to get a signed contract for improvements that you want to make on land that includes an easement held by this associate. Further, you want the negotiations to proceed easily and smoothly.
So, you imagine just this outcome occurring. You think about how you could best approach him to influence a successful outcome. In your mind’s eye, you see yourself finding out what his objections (if any) are, then promptly responding to each one. You create an attractive offer to present to him, rewarding his cooperation.
What do you think will happen when the meeting occurs?
Well, this is a real situation that has already occurred. Hence, I can tell you what happened.
What occurred at the meeting was the following: The business associate was very friendly and appeared eager to attain agreement. The terms that you presented were met favorably and he quickly agreed to proceed on that basis. The contract was then signed by all parties.
What is VERY different from your earlier expectations — of non-cooperation . Quite on the contrary, the result was beneficial and easily attained. There was no reason to believe, beforehand, that this business associate would be so agreeable. He certainly had not been so in your past association.
So, what was different? We will probably never know completely. What we DO know is that you
1) Took the time to assess the situation
2) Chose to mentally plot out the outcome you wanted
3) Put mental-emotional energy into that outcome
4) Showed up at the meeting with a changed attitude
Those four steps outline a WINNING combination. You can use them over and over to create a protocol to decide how you want a situation to unfold … and, then, to watch as it surprises you in pleasant ways!
Go ahead, try this out on a real-life situation that you are facing. Notice what you are feeling and thinking — before, during and after. I would appreciate hearing back from you what you discover when you do this.
