As the first of the year quickly approaches, you may stop and think about the New Year. If you are like many other Americans, you may opt for a New Year’s resolution. But, what should it be? How can you choose the perfect New Year’s resolution?
Here are 5 Tips for choosing a New Year’s resolution that really “fits” what you want in your life:
1. Look at the main areas of your life — what would like to have be different? Choose to design a resolution that would result in this being different.
2. Reflect on your chief sources of stress — which is the greatest? Choose to craft a resolution that deals with this.
3. Of this greatest stressor, what could you change in such a way that the stress would be reduced? Select this change as the basis for your resolution.
4. Choose one resolution at a time. Choosing too much and too many is overwhelming. It can discourage you from persisting until you are successful.
5. Be realistic in your choice. One mistake can be made is aiming too high. Yes, it is good to seek improvement, but, being unrealistic, sets you up for failure. When it becomes apparent that you cannot win — cannot be successful — this can cause you stop the efforts all together.
I urge you to use these ideas over and over to create the MOST-EFFECTIVE of resolutions … and see them through to success!
