A review of 47 randomized clinical studies of meditation was recently published in the internal medicine version of the Journal of the American Medical Association. These cMeditation: Benefits of Mindfulness Meditationlinical trials involved a total of 3,515 subjects.

The findings provided scientific evidence of the benefits of meditation for people with a medical condition.  It included effects against depression similar in size to the effects of antidepressant drugs. Meditation programs — specifically Mindfulness Meditation — were found to result in improvements in anxiety, depression and pain.

The review was led by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Assistant Professor of Medicine, Dr. Madhav Goval. This researcher concluded: “Our review indicates that meditation programs can reduce the negative dimensions of psychological stress. Mindfulness meditation programs, in particular, show  … improvements in anxiety, depression, and pain.”

Do not set yourself an unattainable resolution.  Rather, endeavor to choose a goal or Resolution that is realistic. Setting a goal or selecting a New Year’s resolution can be a powerful and motivational tool.  At the same time, this can become a downfall for many people.  It is so important to set and approach your resolution or goal correctly.

The statistics are staggering.  Either directly or indirectly stress accounts for 80 percent of all illnesses.

In fact, stress is more dangerous than we thought. You’ve probably heard that it can raise your blood pressure, increasing the likelihood of a stroke in the distant future, but recently a health insurance brochure claimed that 90 percent of visits to a primary care physician were stress-related disorders.

The last tStress Relief Technique -- Relaxation in Naturehree posts have provided you with a number of techniques to reduce the stress in your life. Now, we will look at how to put these ideas into practice.

First, choose your two favorite — or most effective — stress-relief techniques.  Write these down for yourself.

Next, stay aware.  Notice the situations in which your body and/or your mind begin to react to stress.  Now this is important:  Begin to notice this beginning-response when it is just beginning to occur.  When the stress-response is just beginning to make itself known is the VERY BEST time to reverse it, to transmute it into a relaxation response.

Once you notice a beginning stress-response, use your preferred stress-relief technique #1.  After applying this method for stress relief, notice what occurs.
