Every day that we are here on earth, we can allow ourselves to be filled with wonder about everything around us. We can Gratitude for the Beauty of Flowers!feel intense gratitude at the sound of a child’s voice, the fragrance of flowers in the air, or the sight of dew-laden grass in the morning.

In a world stuffed with material goods, sometimes we might feel challenged to just feel grateful in our own space with our own possessions and the simple things in life. But we remind ourselves to look around and find what brings us feelings of joy and thankfulness.

When the tough days come along, we can choose to think of the smile on a friend’s face or notice the sound of the birds singing in the early evening. Our thoughts lead us back to feeling gratitude for these pure sources of light in our lives.

The simplest things can have the greatest value to us. The comfortable, old stuffed chair in the living room and a glass of fresh orange juice in the morning can remind us that we have so much to be thankful for. Each day the sun rises and we are here to see it. These are opportunities for us to feel gratitude!

Life gets pretty complicated sometimes. When it does, we opt to re-focus ourselves and acknowledge the contentment we find in simplicity. After a hard day’s work, we can indulge in a glass of iced tea, and sit down and relax. We can be grateful for these small moments.

Today, we allow ourselves to acknowledge all the wondrous yet simple things that surround us. We notice our children’s bright eyes, our spouse’s facial expressions, and the beauty of nature. We can allow ourselves to be grateful every day for simple, abundant things in our lives.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. Each day, do I take note of something I am grateful for?
  2. How can I ensure that I am spending a few minutes every day reflecting on the blessings in my life?
  3. At this very moment, what am I grateful for?

Here is an excerpt from Pippa Passes, a poem by Robert Browning:

The year’s at the spring
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hillside’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in His heaven –
All’s right with the world!

I love the way this poem encapsulates the pure joy and life-enhancing vibrancy of Springtime!

Why all the fuss about being Mindful?

The importance of remaining Mindful rests in the fact that what occurs in our lives happens in this present moment.  The only way to affect our lives centers on what we can do right here, right now.LIVING Mindfulness -- Relaxation in Nature!elaxation in Nature

The past is out of our reach.  It is over.  We cannot change the events — the details of those events — our actions in those events — the outcomes of those events — that have occurred in the past.

The future is not yet here.  We cannot change the events — the details of those events — our actions in those events — the outcomes of those events — that have yet to occur.

What we CAN do is be fully aware of this moment, right now.

Here is the miracle!:  By paying close and particular attention to what is occurring right now — by noticing carefully happens within us and around us — we CAN CHANGE our experience of this moment.

* By staying aware of it, we can change how we look at this moment.
* By staying aware of it, we can choose how we want to feel in this moment.
* By staying aware of it, we can actively select the words we use to communicate in this moment.
* By staying aware of it, we can write a positive script about N-O-W … then, proceed — in this moment — to put that script into action!

Such is the absolute magic of NOW!
